=/opt/steam/steamapps/common/ps3emu/xbox/ps3emulatorxv117/ps3emulatorxv117biosfilexv117.zip# Valve's war on the Steam client has never been fully won. When the company first introduced the digital distribution platform back in 2003, it was looking to "bring the Internet into people's homes, connecting the world's computers" by allowing them to play PC games wherever they were. Instead, Steam has become the go-to place for PC game purchases, in addition to offering its own games to purchase for the PC. Valve has tried to keep its users hooked by releasing new features at a rapid rate, but it's never been able to reverse the trend. Other platforms, including PlayStation Network, have caught up with Valve, offering a fair amount of similar functionality. The PC market has not been kind to the service, either, with Steam declining from a peak of over 100 million registered users back in 2007, to a modest 20 million today. The Steam client provides several useful features for PC gamers, but it has also been a target for malware authors, with various viruses and exploits having been designed to attack the service. Valve has released several security updates to mitigate these issues, but the company has also cracked down on these kind of security-related problems. In February, it introduced a new process to update the Steam client when it detected that there were new updates available. The new update process, which requires users to first restart their PC before they can update the Steam client, was intended to make it easier for gamers to patch their Steam client. Valve, however, didn't mention that the new update process also made it easier for malware authors to spy on their users. To test the new update process, Ozzymandias, an anti-Steam client/malware bot, was used to search for the string "Steam_linux.py" in users' home directories. The search found the file "Steam_linux.py" in the users' Steam library in the rare event that the Steam client was not running. Ozzymandias then created a file called "steam_linux.py" using the contents of "Steam_linux.py" from the user's Steam library, overwriting the original file and then launching the Steam client. When the Steam client launched, Ozzymandias was able to see the Steam client's user interface and all information about a user's Steam library and friends list
